We’ve heard a few nuggets of info from the first STAR WARS spinoff film STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE, including a short teaser during Star Wars Celebration, but today we got our first look at the cast of the film…in full costume! Felicity Jones, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen (Mads!), Diego Luna, Alan Tudyk (who will play a mo-cap character), and Riz Ahmed are featured in the new film (some of which are seen in the photo below).
ROGUE ONE “tells the story of resistance fighters who have united to steal plans to the dreaded Death Star” and is said to be a grittier take on the Star Wars universe, with GODZILLA director Gareth Edwards at the helm.
Kathleen Kennedy had this to say about the story:
“Rogue One takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope and will be a departure from the saga films but have elements that are familiar to the Star Wars universe. It goes into new territory, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining that essential Star Wars feel that fans have come to know. Gareth is such an innovative director and I’m so excited to be working with him and the extraordinary ensemble cast he’s selected for ‘Rogue One.’”
