First teaser for Independence Day: Resurgence starts the invasion

The invasion has begun! Roland Emmerich's long-awaited sequel is heading to theaters next summer and now we've got our first teaser and it looks...pretty badass! Now, maybe it's an easy move to use Bill Pullman's famous speech from the end of the first film to punch up the visuals, but this just looks like a whole heap of fun. Bigger, badder, space-ier, and with more than enough familiar faces to make it feel like a proper sequel. Really, having Goldblum is enough, but bringing back Pullman is a solid win as well. It's been a hell of a wait and it's been a while since Emmerich really wowed us, so this is a welcome addition to the summer movie line-up of 2016. Strap in and get ready for the end of the world.

Here's the synopsis:

We always knew they were coming back.  After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale.  Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet.  But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force.  Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women  can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

You can get a peek at our set visit from earlier this year HERE and get an explanation of why Will Smith isn't in the film HERE. There's also a fun site set up that explores the events between the last film and now called The War of 1996. We got ya covered. The film has an impressive roster of stars, including original cast members Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner, and Judd Hirsch, with new additions of Sela Ward (as the President), Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe, Joey King, William Fichtner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and...Angelababy? (I hope that's on her driver's license).

INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE invades theaters on June 24, 2016.
