Well, since there's no sign of a new live-action GREMLINS film on the horizon, I guess an animated series is better than nothing. According to The Wrap, an animated GREMLINS series is in development for WarnerMedia's upcoming streaming service. The show is being written and executive produced by Tze Chun, who directed the Alice Eve/Bryan Cranston pic COLD COMES THE NIGHT and founded the comic book company TKO Studios.

According to The Wrap, the series would be a prequel that follows a young Mr. Wing (aka Grandfather as played by Keye Luke in the films) as he "goes on adventures with Mogwai Gizmo."

How soon this comes to fruition is unknown, although the WarnerMedia streaming platform is planned to launch later this year, featuring movies and series that fall under the Warner Brothers, Turner and HBO umbrella. While it's nice to have some older content to stream from those companies, they're going to have to get into the originals game if they want to compete with Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu, so this Gremlins show is a step in the right direction, but it's surely not enough to get subscribers onboard. We'll see what else they cook up as the streaming wars continue.
