Universal has announced HORRIBLE BOSSES director Seth Gordon as the helmer on IDENTITY THEFT. The upcoming film will star Melissa McCarthy of BRIDESMAIDS fame and reunite Gordon with Jason Bateman, who is also working as producer alongside Scott Stuber.
In the film Bateman will be the victim of identity theft by McCarthy. The film was originally written for a male criminal to ruin the poor guy’s life but after Bateman was impressed with McCarthy’s comedic stylings (she was definitely a highlight on BRIDESMAIDS) he pushed for them to rewrite the role specifically for her. The script was originally written by Jerry Eeten, with rewrites by Steve Conrad and Craig Mazin.
Gotta love the guy behind the incredible documentary THE KING OF KONG is doing all these big comedies. Shooting for IDENTITY THEFT is planned to begin to start in April.
