After years of speculation and thirsting for some vampire-on-vampire action, Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire is headed to AMC.

AMC has ordered an eight-part series based on the book, which in 1994 was adapted into a major motion picture starring Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Kirsten Dunst, Antonio Banderas, and Christian Slater. AMC acquired the rights to Rice's collection of novels last year, and the time has finally come to sink their teeth into the beloved material.

Interview with the Vampire isn't the only property that AMC has plans for. The network is also looking to adapt the author's Mayfair Witches series, with Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul producer Mark Johnson overseeing the project. Johnson, who has a deal set up at AMC, will be in charge of bringing Rice's macabre universe to the small screen.

Rolin Jones, who co-created and served as showrunner for the first season of HBO’s Perry Mason, will act as the showrunner and writer of the Interview with the Vampire series. He'll also serve as an executive producer while Rice and Christopher Rice will participate as non-writing executive producers.

“The challenge of adapting for television the groundbreaking and immensely compelling work of Anne Rice is both intimidating and exhilarating,” Johnson said. “Having previously produced films from such singular works, I recognize both the responsibility and the obligation we owe the material. I strongly believe that with AMC and Rolin Jones we are equipped to meet this challenge and to thrill and entertain both the loyal Anne Rice fan and the viewer who is just now discovering her work.”

“In 1973, a grieving mother and extraordinary writer began what would become the finest Vampire novel ever written, all respects to Mr. Stoker,” Jones said. “Nearly fifty years later we know what’s expected of us. We know how much this book and the ones that follow mean to their massive fan base. We feel you over our shoulders as we tend the Savage Garden. Louis and Lestat are coming out of hiding and we can’t wait to reunite them with you.”

Rice's collection of novels are a treasured corner of the literary world, giving life to goths the world over with their stirring depiction of all things sinister and sexy. Adapting Interview into a proper television series has been whispered about for what feels like an eternity. It's nice to see that it's finally getting ready to rise from the dead.
