Casting for the fourth entry in THE MATRIX series is in full swing as Warner Bros. adds more and more names to its star-studded ensemble. With returning vets Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss set to reprise their roles, it’s now been revealed star Jada Pinkett Smith is in talks to come back for the new entry after playing Niobe in the second and third movies.

Deadline reports the deal is not quite finalized yet, but if she does return, she will be joined by newcomers Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who was announced for the lead role last week, and Neil Patrick Harris, whose casting was confirmed yesterday. From the human city Zion, Niobe is the captain of the hovercraft Logos and is known as one of the best pilots in the real world. In the virtual world, she is a renowned martial artist who was even able to survive a confrontation with Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving). She has also made appearances in the MATRIX video games – ENTER THE MATRIX and THE MATRIX ONLINE.

As casting ramps up there’s still not much more to go on in terms of the actual movie, other than that Lana Wachowski is returning to direct and co-wrote the script with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell. Bringing the old and some new cast members together for more MATRIX isn't quite the same as, say, Disney doing more STAR WARS movies with their original and new cast, but it seems like every studio and network is reaching into their sacks of established IP and bringing everyone back for another round. Despite ending on a sour note the MATRIX series is still a popular one, so there will be plenty of people eagerly awaiting more kung-fu in leather clothes in the new decade.
