When writer/director James Gunn was initially let go from directing GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 3 he got a new gig a few months later when he was brought on by the other major comic book outlet, DC, for their own team-up flick, THE SUICIDE SQUAD. As is the case for anything “Marvel v. DC” related, there was no doubt a lot of bickering between the die-hard fans on both sides of the comic book franchise picket lines. But as that unnecessary feuding continues, Gunn took to social media to drop a bit of wisdom and urge fans of all stripes to come together and show love to all things pertaining to costumed heroes and colorful villains.

Gunn has been busy posting pictures of him hanging out with the cast of SUICIDE SQUAD, and as filming has kicked off, he took to Twitter to share the news that Marvel has no ill-will towards him directing a movie for the other team. The folks at the studio even showed their support by sending him a sweet scrapbook filled with pictures to remind him of all his Marvel memories. In getting such a sweet gift, it was enough to bring a tear to his eye and to inspire him to urge his followers – whether they stan Marvel or DC – to stop yelling at each other about which is better and come together to support what both sides have to offer.

A few more months went by after landing SQUAD that Gunn was hired by Marvel once again to direct GUARDIANS 3, so Gunn is indeed working for both companies. So while he has more reason than most to support both franchises, what the man is saying is something all comic book fans need to hear. The endless bickering and putting down just because you like Spider-Man more than Batman is entirely unwarranted, mostly because, at the end of the day, none of it matters. We're living in a Golden Era were so much great content is coming from both sides, so the screaming about which is better because of pettiness like which characters have a better legacy, which movies get better reviews, or because the guy who made SUCKER PUNCH directed a few is becoming increasingly ridiculous. There's more than enough room to appreciate all the content no matter where it comes from, and at the very least, just don't dig on other people who do like one series more than the other. Or, you know, you could hate all the content, too, no matter it be from Marvel or DC. That's a stance too.
