Jeff Goldblum on the pleasure seeking Grandmaster of Thor: Ragnarok

Jeff Goldblum The Grandmaster Thor: Ragnarok

I don't know about you, but I consider a little Jeff Goldblum to be a welcome addition to any film. One of the actor's upcoming projects is THOR: RAGNAROK, in which he'll play the Grandmaster, one of the oldest beings in the universe who loves nothing more than to pit two opposing forces against one another. Speaking with Empire recently, Jeff Goldblum revealed just how excited he is to take on the role of the hedonistic Grandmaster.

He’s a hedonist, a pleasure-seeker, an enjoyer of life and tastes and smells. I thought, ‘I can do that, I’ll bet!’ I’m working on my part every day. I’m a sponge, researching. [Taika Waititi] is encouraging me to improvise and make it my own, and that’s what I’m trying to do. I hope he doesn’t throw me out on the first day!

Production on THOR: RAGNAROK is due to kick off in Australia next month and Goldblum will on the set for three weeks to a month. Although I haven't actually disliked either of Chris Hemsworth's THOR films, they unfortunately strike me as lower-tier Marvel flicks. The world and characters of Asgard is a strong one however and I hope that with THOR: RAGNAROK, we'll finally see the series live up to its potential. From a casting point of view the film certainly seems more promising; Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, and Idris Elba will all be returning, and they'll be joined by Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, and Karl Urban as Skurge. Looks pretty solid to me. If you'd like to discover a few more THOR: RAGNAROK tidbits, including just how much of Planet Hulk will be featured in the film, check out our own Paul Shirey's latest scoop!

THOR: RAGNAROK is set to hit theaters on November 3, 2017, but our next dose of Goldblum will arrive with INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE on June 24, 2016.
