Jeremy Renner hints Hawkeye may have a role in Captain America 3

With ten Marvel Cinematic Universe features released and two currently in production, Jeremy Renner‘s screen time as Hawkeye has amounted to less than an hour. With most of his time in THE AVENGERS relegated to henchman status for Loki, Renner was vocal in his disatisfaction with his limited time as the arrow shooting hero. AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON has already showcased a new outfit for the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and hopefully a more central role in the action.

Renner teased to Collider that his expanded part in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON may not be his only part in the upcoming future of the MCU.

“[T]here are rumblings of [a Hawkeye appearance in] CAPTAIN AMERICA 3,” quickly adding, “I don’t know what’s going to happen there. I’ve got to find the time, man. I’m trying to stay home and I can’t.”

Hawkeye was originally to be included in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER before being scrapped entirely. There have long been rumblings of a Hawkeye/Black Widow feature that never came to fruition, but keeping Renner involved in the MCU is a wise decision. CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 is likely to address the repercussions of AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON as well as the rebuilding of S.H.I.E.L.D. which would directly impact Hawkeye.

The question will be whether Renner can fit the role in. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 5 has just begun shooting and Justin Lin‘s sequel to THE BOURNE LEGACY will likely shoot next year for a 2016 release. CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 is already slated to hit theaters on May 6, 2016, so we will have to see just how they fit Clint Barton into the action.
