Jeremy Renner is a busy guy these days.
Renner has started a production company called The Combine with partner Don Handfield. As their first order of business, they will be developing a Steve McQueen biopic for Renner to star in.
WE OWN THE NIGHT writer and director James Gray will pen the script based on two books by Marshall Terrill: Portrait of an American Rebel and The Life and Legend of a Hollywood Icon. Czech advertising creator/director Ivan Zacharias will make this film his big-screen directorial debut.
Renner and Handfield will produce the McQueen project with Hurt Locker producer Greg Shapiro, Cross Creek Pictures’ Brian Oliver (one of the producers of Black Swan), and Zacharias’ producing partner Nick Landon.
McQueen was the epitome of cool. He was an action star with charisma, a guy who liked to do his own stunts, and an overall badass behind the wheel. Does Renner capture even a glimmer of who McQueen was? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
