Joaquin Phoenix Joker Movie Rewritten During Filming

In a recent interview with MTV News, JOKER star Zazie Beetz revealed that screenwriter Scott Silver rewrote the script for Todd Phillips' JOKER as the movie was being filmed.

As reported by io9, the ATLANTA alum had this to say about her upcoming project:

The script was great. We rewrote the whole thing while we were shooting it,” she told MTV News. “Literally, write the scene for the night and then do it. During hair and makeup we’d memorize those lines and then do them and then we’d reshoot that three weeks later.

This does not bode well for our supervillain. As a rule, I try not to make any judgments on a film until watching said film on the big screen. However, I have to say, this approach seems pretty rash, and the entire project was already sounding pretty sloppy to begin with, so…I don't have the highest hopes for this one. Here's hoping I'm wrong.

Loosely based on the DC comic book character, the 2019 JOKER film will change up the origin story quite a bit. In Phillips' version, the Joker is a failed stand-up comedian who is driven insane until he becomes a psychopathic serial killer.

The cast for JOKER includes Joaquin Phoenix (YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE), Robert De Niro (RAGING BULL), Shea Wigham (VICE), Zazie Beetz (DEADPOOL 2), Bryan Callen (BAD SANTA), Brett Cullen (THE DARK KNIGHT RISES), Frances Conroy (AMERICAN HORROR STORY), Glenn Fleshler (TRUE DETECTIVE), Douglas Hodge (BLACK MIRROR), Marc Maron (GLOW), Bill Camp (MIDNIGHT SPECIAL), Jolie Chan (THE FEVER), Josh Pais (RAY DONOVAN), Dante Pereira-Olson (JESSICA JONES), and Mary Kate Malat (ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK).

JOKER is slated to swing into theaters on October 4th, 2019.
