Joe Carnahan in early talks to write and direct Bad Boys 3

It's a little surprising that it's taken this long to get BAD BOYS 3 going but the long-in-development third installment of the BAD BOYS franchise may finally be moving forward; Deadline has reported that Joe Carnahan is in early talks to rewrite a strong existing draft by David Guggenheim with a possibility that he may also direct the film.

Michael Bay, Martin Lawrence, Jerry Bruckheimer, and Will Smith have talked up BAD BOYS 3 for some time but according to Bruckheimer the long delay hasn't been due to lack of interest, it's simply a difficult task getting everyone together at the same time. Martin Lawrence has long desired a chance to step back into the shoes of Marcus Burnett and has always seemed certain that the film would happen; just last year he revealed that the script was getting close to completion.

I believe so. Yes. I just talked to Jerry Bruckheimer yesterday and he said its real, they’re working on the script, they’re getting close and it all looks good.

Sony is looking to get things moving forward quickly as they want to have a movie for Will Smith to consider once he finishes up with SUICIDE SQUAD. There's no deal in place for Joe Carnahan at the moment but should this news pan out, based on his past action flicks, I'd totally be on board with Carnahan lending his brand of macho action to the BAD BOYS world.

Would Joe Carnahan be a good fit for BAD BOYS?
