Laurence Fishburne won’t return for Justice League; defends DCEU

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

DC's mightiest heroes will finally come together in JUSTICE LEAGUE, which hits this November, but not every character from the DCEU will be making an appearance. In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Laurence Fishburne revealed the simple reason as to why he wouldn't be making an appearance, but also had a few words to say in defense of BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. Take a look!

Laurence Fishburne on why he's not in JUSTICE LEAGUE:

They asked me to come for a day, but I couldn’t work it out, schedule-wise. And really, what do you need the newspaperman in JUSTICE LEAGUE for? You want to see the Flash. You want to see Aquaman. You want to see Wonder Woman. You want to see the Lantern.

We’ve been waiting 35 years for these [characters] to show up on the screen. What were they doing over there? Marvel has been kicking their ass. This is the comic-book geek in me, who has a collection of comic books. I’ve been waiting to see these people on-screen forever.

Regarding the backlash for BATMAN V SUPERMAN:

Look, I love what Zack Snyder does. Jesse Eisenberg, this little nebbishy guy, as Lex Luthor? For me, that’s a genius move. And the whole thing with Martha Kent and Martha Wayne? I don’t know, man, I must be sentimental but that’s some heartwarming [stuff] to me. So I don’t get it.

Given his eagerness to join Keanu Reeves in JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 2, I don't doubt that the man has a penchant for world-building. He's certainly right in regards to Marvel characters in cinema, but I think this year will be very telling in what we will happen with the DC Extended Universe as it stands. WONDER WOMAN and JUSTICE LEAGUE are on their way and if they don't deliver, Warner Bros. may have to rethink their strategy. I'm certainly eager to find out!

JUSTICE LEAGUE hits theaters on November 17, 2017.
