Margot Robbie returns as Harley Quinn with new Birds of Prey look

On the surface, it seems like there are more Harley Quinn projects in development than total movies in the works over at Marvel, as DC clearly wants to go all in on the SUICIDE SQUAD standout played by Margot Robbie. There’s a Harley Quinn/Joker movie supposedly on the docket, SUICIDE SQUAD 2, an animated Harley Quinn show and, the big one that’s actually in the works, BIRDS OF PREY (AND THE FANTABULOUS EMANCIPATION OF ONE HARLEY QUINN - *regains breath*). The movie is set to come out one year from now and Robbie is wasting no time teasing her return by taking to Instagram to show off her new costume designed by, I wanna say, Miley Cyrus?

Robbie posted the photo on Instagram this morning with the caption “Miss me” and a little kissy emoji. That’s about all on the detail front, with the pic teasing her new, colorful duds and a collar with a tag that reads “Bruce.” Perhaps that refers to Batman himself, Bruce Wayne, which is perhaps more of a commitment than the Dark Knight is currently looking for.

With all the Quinn-related projects in discussion the only one that has got off the ground and into serious production, including a full cast announcement, is BIRDS OF PREY. News about the movie’s title left people scratching their heads and slurring their words when the giant subtitle was added, calling to mind the movie BIRDMAN: OR THE UNEXPECTED VIRTUE OF IGNORANCE. Writer Christina Hodson talked about the title earlier this month, saying the response has been “super mixed” since the unveiling, but she still believes it appropriately markets the movie.

I kind of think it’s all in there. I think it sets the tone a little bit in that it’s a little tongue-in-cheek. My hands are so tied. But I do think it speaks for itself a little bit. Emancipation means a lot of different things to a lot of different people, and we’re going to be exploring that in different ways.

Fans got super excited about the movie when it was announced Ewan McGregor was cast as the villain Black Mask, with the rest of the Birds fleshed out by Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya and Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain.

BIRDS OF PREY hits theaters February 2020.
