New Line drops Escape from New York remake, anyone want it?

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

I know you were hoping, whether secretly or not, that the ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK remake would just go away. Well it has to a certain extent.

It won’t be housed at New Line or Warner Bros. that’s for sure. They’ve decided to drop the remake and leave it up for grabs to whatever studio wants it.

New Line and producer Neil Moritz have been working on the remake for some time now. Breck Eisner (THE CRAZIES) was attached to direct a script by writers that include Allan Loeb (WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS) and Jamie Moss (X-MEN: FIRST CLASS).

At one time, there was rumor that Gerard Butler and Jeremy Renner may step into the role of Snake. More recently, it was also being said that Tom Hardy might be an option since he is the “go to tough guy” now in Hollywood.

If a studio picks the project up, will they get that pretty little package? Maybe. But who really wants to remake ESCAPE anyway?
