New rumors regarding Batman and The Joker’s relationship in Suicide Squad

Back in January, we heard the first rumors of a Batman cameo in David Ayer's SUICIDE SQUAD. With Ben Affleck's character not slated for a solo outing until after 2020, it made logical sense for him to crop up throughout the DC Cinematic Universe. Now, more rumors have surfaced that put in perspective just how The Dark Knight may fit into the villain-centric movie.

While this new rumor comes via Latino Review, it does support similar sources over at Badass Digest that have Batman acting as the DC equivalent of Nick Fury.

According to sources, in the film Batman is some sort of big boogeyman that the government REALLY hates. Get this, prior to the events in #BatmanvSuperman, THE JOKER is the only one to really ever meet him or know him and that's why he's so important to Amanda Waller. They have footage of Batman in action which they watch. There is a bit of dialogue where they say Batman is the key to tracking down all "the supers." Very cool stuff.

With Lex Luthor a potential character in SUICIDE SQUAD and the rumored nature of his relationship with Batman in BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, this could very well turn out to be true. I like the angle of Batman being this mysterious vigilante and not the hero that everyone considers him in other iterations of the character. Taking him and making him truly an underworld legend will be a unique take on the character. It also gives more gravitas to The Joker and makes him vital even if he is totally insane.

SUICIDE SQUAD seems like it has it's work cut out for it as it introduces and gives balanced screen time to a whole crew of new characters, but Warner Bros may be banking on this being their GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY and the chance to kick off a half dozen DC properties in a single film. Whether that is because of the Batman and Superman connections or in spite of will be determined when the film hits theaters on August 5, 2016.
