Disney has been all aboard the live-action remake train since THE JUNGLE BOOK made almost $1 billion at the global box office. Since then we've had live-action iterations of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, DUMBO, ALADDIN, and THE LION KING. Next up for the House of Mouse is the $300 million budgeted MULAN, set to hit theaters next year. 'Tis the season for giving and Disney graciously decided to unlock Scrooge McDuck's money bank and give the world a brand new trailer this morning which you can check out above.
MULAN has had challenges getting to the big screen worthy of the Chinese warrior herself. Plans for a live-action MULAN film began over ten years ago before the project was scrapped in October 2010. Thankfully, Disney restarted the MULAN movement in 2015 and director Niki Caro's film will finally be available for your viewing pleasure in March. For those of you unfamiliar with the MULAN legend here's a brief synopsis of the film:
When the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Chinese Army to defend the country from Huns, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father. She is spirited, determined and quick on her feet. Disguised as a man by the name of Hua Jun, she is tested every step of the way and must harness her innermost strength and embrace her true potential.
MULAN stars Liu Yifei, Donnie Yen, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Gong Li, and Jet Li and cuts its way into theaters March 27.
