Quentin Tarantino shares his idea for Halloween 6 which never happened

Halloween 6, Quentin Tarantino, Michael Myers

It may seem a little strange, but there was a brief period in which Quentin Tarantino would have scripted HALLOWEEN: THE CURSE OF MICHAEL MYERS, the sixth film in the long-running HALLOWEEN franchise. At the time, Tarantino didn't have many credits under his belt and was still a ways off from being the celebrated filmmaker that he is today. As revealed in "Taking Shape," a recently released book chronicling the history of the franchise, Miramax offered Tarantino the opportunity to pen the script for the sixth HALLOWEEN film, an opportunity which he declined, but he apparently considered it long enough to kick around some story ideas for the sequel.

The previous film, HALLOWEEN 5: THE REVENGE OF MICHAEL MYERS, ended with a mysterious Man in Black breaking Myers out of a holding cell at the Sheriff's station and disappearing into the night. The identity of this mysterious figure was left unclear, so it would have fallen to Quentin Tarantino to figure it out. The ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD director shed a little light on his thoughts while speaking with Consequence of Sound in a recent interview.

Yeah, yeah, well, way before I’d ever done anything … it would have been if I had done it — I never got hired — but it would have been my job to figure out who the guy in the boots is… I was like, “Leave that scene where [the Man in Black] shows up, alright, and frees Michael Myers.” And so the only thing that I had in my mind — I still hadn’t figured out who that dude was — was like the first 20 minutes would have been the Lee Van Cleef dude and Michael Myers on the highway, on the road, and they stop at coffee shops and shit and wherever Michael Myers stops, he kills everybody. So, they’re like leaving a trail of bodies on Route 66.

As we know, HALLOWEEN: THE CURSE OF MICHAEL MYERS revealed the Man in Black to be the leader of the Cult of Thorn, a group of druids who had cursed the young Michael Myers to kill every member of his family, thereby keeping the cult in power. Yea, people didn't care for that one much, although the Producer's Cut is a little better. Tarantino also gave his two cents on Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN series, which he admitted that he initially didn't like. "I am a big fan of the Rob Zombie Halloweens. When I saw the first one, I didn’t like it at all. I didn’t like the aesthetic. I didn’t like everything that he added to it and then the last hour just becomes this fast forward remake of the first one. What the fuck is all this shit? Eight months later, I watched it on video … and I really liked them once I got all the preconceptions out of my head," Tarantino explained. "That kid [Daeg Faerch] is really good. I mean, what did I think Rob Zombie was going to do with it? Do I want him to do something else? I like his Sam Peckinpah aesthetic. So, now that I didn’t have a bug up my ass about it, I was actually able to appreciate it. And again, it’s that kid who got me into it, and Danielle Harris is fantastic."

The HALLOWEEN franchise is set to continue with HALLOWEEN KILLS hitting theaters on October 16, 2020, followed by HALLOWEEN ENDS on October 15, 2021.
