The upcoming Marvel Studios movie THE ETERNALS has been gathering quite the band of top tier talent recently, with names like Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani and even the one and only Keanu Reeves attached in some way.  Now we can add one more veteran of the silver screen to the pile, and none other than Salma Hayek is in talks to join the cast of the upcoming blockbuster, which centers on all-powerful, god-like beings in the Marvel universe.

The Wrap got the original report that Hayek was in negotiations for a role in the movie, which is set to be directed by Chloe Zhao (THE RIDER) with a script from Matthew and Ryan Firpo. Details about her role are being kept under wraps, but she joins stars Nanjiani and Madden, the latter said to be playing the character Ikaris.

As for Jolie, no doubt the biggest star linked to the movie, earlier reports had her attached to the character Sersi, but The Hollywood Reporter reports that while she’s still up for a role in the movie she still has yet to officially sign on. When it comes to Reeves, his involvement has been a rumor from the start, but it should be noted that Marvel has been very open about their active desire to get him into one of their movies.

The upcoming Marvel movie will take us into the cosmos once again, this time focusing on the race of god-like beings the Eternals, who were created by the race known as the Celestials millions of years ago. The offshoots of the Eternals, the villainous Deviants, are also said to be a factor in the movie. Fans of the Marvel movies have already been introduced to a Celestial before in Kurt Russell’s Ego from GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2, a villain and father of Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) who tried to rule the cosmos with his blue…essence.

Hayek has been in the game for over 20 years and proven herself across all types of projects and genres, from her Oscar-nominated work in the biopic FRIDA all the way to excellent comedic turns in shows like 30 ROCK. She would make an excellent addition to this cast that, should everyone linked to the project actually join up, would be one of the more impressive ensembles in the MCU, which has no shortage of impressive casts.
