Salt director Phillip Noyce sticks with espionage action for Hunter Killer

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Director Phillip Noyce has experience with the action-espionage genre that goes much further back than last summer’s SALT — he also directed two Jack Ryan movies, PATRIOT GAMES and CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER.

Noyce didn’t get the opportunity to deliver Ryan’s submarine adventure THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER, but the director has another watery vessel in his immediate future. As Moviehole informed us the other day (and has now been verified), Noyce will next direct the thriller HUNTER KILLER, based on the book “Firing Point.”

The story “follows an untested submarine captain who must work with a Navy SEAL team to rescue the Russian president, who has been taken prisoner during a military coup, in an effort to stop a rogue Russian General from igniting World War III.”

The Relativity movie is also being produced by noise king Neal Moritz (FAST AND FURIOUSes, BATTLE: LOS ANGELES). TAKEN director Pierre Morel was previously attached to the project.
