Scream television series will have supernatural elements and a fifth movie could still happen

I really thought SCREAM 4 finally killed off the franchise once and for all, but besides an upcoming show on MTV based on the films, it does sound like there is interest in making a fifth movie. Harvey Weinstein was recently at the Zurich Film Festival and made a couple of comments on SCREAM 5 and the television series.

Indiewire was there and apparently Harvey Weinstein is trying to convince his brother to make SCREAM 5. Proceed with caution though, because there is a SCREAM 4 spoiler ahead:

"Everyone lived in ‘Scream 4," he said. "I'm begging him to do the movie and just end it. We've milked that cow."

BlairWitch.de was also in attendance, and they have some additional comments from Weinstein on the television series. He says the film series and the television show are separate, and there will not be an overlap between the two. Weinstein also said the series "is supposed to represent a new beginning and also pursue a supernatural direction."

If the series is going to have supernatural elements, will "Ghost Face" even be on the show or only appear in the first episode? What kind of supernatural directions are they looking at for the series? It sounds like the show might only share its name with the films with no other connections, so why even call it SCREAM?

Oh yeah, that's right: name recognition. A series "based" on the SCREAM films is sure to get more attention than a random show involving the supernatural, which means more people might check it out then if it was called something else. SCREAM 5 and the series could potentially be great, but at this point I'm not too high on either project.
