Sex and the City revival officially happening at HBO Max

Sex and the City is making a comeback. It has been announced that the popular HBO series has officially been revived at HBO Max. The news was first announced via the social media accounts of the stars who will be participating in the revival.

The new, 10-episode chapter from Michael Patrick King, will be called And Just Like That…, a nod to the original series. The show will follow Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte as they navigate friendship in their 50s. Production on the series will begin in late spring in New York. Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon are all reprising their roles but you might notice that one part of the signature foursome from the series is missing. Kim Cattrall, who played the scene-stealing Samantha on the original series, is not involved in the HBO Max incarnation. The actress has openly feuded with Parker and, more in October 2017, was vocal about seeing her part being recast in a bid to improve the original comedy's inclusivity.

Sex and the City, based on the essays from Candice Bushnell, ran for six seasons from 1998-2008 on HBO. Set and filmed in New York City, the show followed the lives of a group of four women, three in their mid-thirties and one in her forties who, despite their different natures and ever-changing sex lives, remain inseparable and confide in each other. The series was groundbreaking during its time because it was one of the first shows to feature women talking about their relationship and sex lives in an explicitly open fashion. The show is also given the credit, along with The Sopranos, for helping to increase HBO's popularity as a network. The series took home the Emmy for best comedy series in 2001, with stars Parker and Nixon also winning statuettes for their respective roles in 2004. The series also spawned feature films in 2008 and 2010 as well as a two-season prequel series on The CW, The Carrie Diaries, from former writer Amy B. Harris. A third film was in the works but it was ultimately scrapped in 2017 with Cattrall being very vocal at the time that she did not want to participate in any extensions of the franchise.
