Simba must become the true king in new The Lion King TV spot

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

The story of THE LION KING wouldn’t quite live up to its title if it didn’t involve a lion becoming king at the end, and the journey of Simba reclaiming his throne is sparked by the words from his father, “Remember who you are.” Perhaps one of the most notable lines from the original movie makes an appearance in the new TV spot for the upcoming Disney remake, as Mufasa (James Earl Jones) comes back from the beyond to inspire his son (Donald Glover) to become the one true king. Yeah, he has to murder his uncle to do it, but you know, that’s in the fine print.

The first TV spot for the movie comes as Disney unveiled 11 new character posters, all featuring the primary animal cast and doubling as a reminder of what certain animals look like in case anyone had forgotten. As for the TV spot itself, it continues to rely heavily on the voice work of returning actor Jones, whose booming voice has been the dominant vocal element in the past trailers. Directed by Jon Favreau and written by Jeff Nathanson, the rest of the cast is made up of Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, John Oliver, Billy Eichner, Seth Rogen, John Kani and Beyonce Knowles-Carter.

On top of new character posters coming out, the movie has also been in the news for box office related news. While tickets have yet to go on sale analysts have are already predicting the movie is on track for a nigh-$200 million opening weekend, if perhaps not more. While Disney has rolled out several remakes of their animated classics this is perhaps their biggest one yet, and with over a month left to go it already looks like this might be the king of the summer.

THE LION KING is in theaters July 19.
