Simon West will direct Henry Cavill in boat service commando flick Stratton

Not content with just being the man of steel or the man from U.N.C.L.E., Henry Cavill formed his own production company with his brother last year to bring another character to silver screens. That character is John Stratton, a Special Boat Service commando popularized in the Douglas Falconer novels that follow Stratton as he and his team track down a lethal international terrorist. Chosen to direct the first feature is Simon West, who more recently worked with Jason Statham in WILD CARD.

Henry Cavill had this to say regarding his choice on the director:

I’ve long wanted to tell a story about the British Special Forces and finally the opportunity has come around. Duncan Falconer’s work is fantastic and we are incredibly fortunate to be working with him so closely. We plan to convert the books to cinema as accurately as possible while keeping them topical. Simon West is a perfect match for this movie with his ability to marry story-telling and action, both of which are essential to do this project justice!

Slipping on the blue and red tights thrust Cavill into the cinema spotlight, but I'm curious as to whether or not side projects like THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. will be something audiences will take to, despite the lack of flying. The man has the charisma so I'm hoping the story for this is solid. I'm pretty indifferent towards Simon West (THE EXPENDABLES 2, THE MECHANIC) so we'll see what he does or doesn't bring to the table.

Production on STRATTON will begin this summer.

As far as I'm concered, THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. looks like it could be a lot of fun!
