Another classic sitcom is looking to make a return to the small-screen as Deadline has reported that UCP is developing a sequel to Punky Brewster, the 1984 series which followed a young girl growing up with a foster father. Soleil Moon Frye, who played the titular character in the original series, is set to reprise her role for the sequel.

The Punky Brewster revival will once again follow Punky, who is now a single mother of three trying to get her life back on track. She soon encounters a young girl who reminds her a lot of her younger self. Cue the shenanigans. Soleil Moon Frye will also serve as an executive producer along with original series creator David W. Duclon. Steve and Jim Armogida (School of Rock) will write the sequel series. Punky Brewster originally aired for four seasons and also spawned an animated spin-off, It's Punky Brewster, which featured the voices of the original cast. Should the new Punky Brewster series take off, it would join the ranks of Boy Meets World, Full House, Will & Grace, Murphy Brown, and Roseanne, which have all been resurrected in recent years.
