Steven Yeun & J.K. Simmons to lead Kirkman's animated Invincible series

Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! Wait a minute ... no, it's Robert Kirkman's upcoming animated series, INVINCIBLE, and the show's newly-confirmed cast list is positively insane!

I'm not going to beat around the bush here, folks. Let's dive right into this thing. This afternoon, Amazon Prime unleashed a press release for INVINCIBLE that includes the names of an absurd amount of top-tier talent for the series based on Kirkman, Cory Walker, and artist Ryan Ottley's comic book for Skybound Entertainment, an Image Comics imprint. Set to lead the cast is THE WALKING DEAD's Steven Yeun and Marvel's SPIDER-MAN alum J.K. Simmons. Joining them as part of the animation's ensemble cast are Sandra Oh (KILLING EVE), Seth Rogen (SAUSAGE PARTY), Gillian Jacobs (COMMUNITY), Andrew Rannells (GIRLS), Zazie Beetz (DEADPOOL 2), and Mark Hamill (the STAR WARS franchise, duh).

What's with the face? Is that list not as impressive as I'd led you to believe? Well, what if I told you that Walton Goggins (TOMB RAIDER), Jason Madzoukas (BROOKLYN NINE-NINE), Mae Whitman (GOOD GIRLS), Chris Diamantopoulos (SILICON VALLEY), Melise (THE FLASH), Kevin Michael Richardson (THE SIMPSONS), Grey Griffin (AVENGERS ASSEMBLE), Max Burkholder (IMAGINARY ORDER), and many more were also set to play a part in the eight-episode series? Yeah, not so disappointed now, are you?

As per Amazon's official press release for INVINCIBLE:

INVINCIBLE is an adult animated superhero show that revolves around seventeen-year-old Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun), who’s just like every other guy his age — except that his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet, Omni-Man (JK Simmons). But as Mark develops powers of his own, he discovers that his father’s legacy may not be as heroic as it seems.

INVINCIBLE is is produced by Skybound and executive produced by Kirkman, Racioppa, David Alpert (THE WALKING DEAD, FEAR THE WALKING DEAD), Catherine Winder (THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE, STAR WARS: CLONE WARS) with Supervising Directors Justin & Chris Copeland (AVENGERS ASSEMBLE, ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN), and Linda Lamontagne serving as casting director.

Kirkman's second-longest running comic book series, Invincible, ended its 15-year long run in February of 2018. The full series is available for collection now wherever comic books are sold. Furthermore, Kirkman is also developing a full-length feature film on the Invincible property. Personally, I've only read the first several volumes of the series, but I can assure you up front that Invincible is a violent and entertaining ride through the world of corrupt superheroes. Here's hoping that Amazon allows Kirkman and his team to take the show to the extreme, and not just save all the good stuff for the upcoming live-action film.
