The Apes will rise again! Planet of the Apes prequel date set

We’ve known for awhile now that the powers that be, also known as FOX, have been wanting to get some sort of PLANET OF THE APES film off the ground whether it be a sequel or a prequel.

It was finally decided that a prequel would be made. It was also decided that instead of having the usual costumed apes there would be CGI apes instead. Hmmm…

Now this film that sounds terribly terrible exciting now has a release date. FOX has announced that they will release the prequel titled RISE OF THE APES on June 24, 2011.

The prequel is set in San Francisco and will be a a cautionary tale in which “man’s own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy”.

I am one of those people that feels like all of this hassle is unnecessary. Why bother doing a sequel or prequel? The only PLANET OF THE APES that I need was made back in 1968 and starred Charlton Heston.
