The red band trailer for The Watch loses the Neighborhood

I had almost no expectations for NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH when the teaser and poster were originally released. With the Treyvon Martin shooting in Florida, the marketing was completely pulled for the movie. Today we have the release of the red band trailer for the newly retitled THE WATCH.

The movie definitely has the feel of OLD SCHOOL meets MEN IN BLACK, which actually works pretty well in this trailer. Stars Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill and Richard Ayoade play off of each other very naturally. It was directed by Akiva Schaffer and written by Jared Stern, Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg, and Justin Theroux. I usually see a red flag when there are that many writers on a single movie, so it remains to be seen if the best bits are all in this trailer.

I love seeing R. Lee Ermey in his signature crotchety old man role. Before this trailer, THE WATCH was not even in my top ten for the summer, but now I think it makes the Top 15.

THE WATCH opens July 27th.
