Bane, Mad Max, now Elton John? Tom Hardy may play the singer in the biopic Rocketman

Talk about range! Tom Hardy has had quite a varied range of roles over his career. He has played romantic leads, a Romulan, Bane in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, Mad Max, and now potentially singer Elton John. The singer has been developing a movie about his own life for quite a while and has director Michael Gracey helming. Until recently, Justin Timberlake was rumored to play Sir Elton after portraying him in the music video "This Train Don't Stop There Anymore".

Hardy and Elton John share very little in common physically, but Hardy is also very adept at changing his appearance as the role demands it. Just look at STAR TREK: NEMESIS compared to BRONSON and just see the complete transformation between roles. Nothing official has been offered to Tom Hardy at this point as rumors also link Ben Foster to the part.

ROCKETMAN will be “told in a non-linear and hyper-visual manner that will transport people through the many intense experiences, some wonderful, some not, that helped define Elton as an artist, musician and man," according to producer Steve Hamilton Shaw. The screenplay comes from BILLY ELLIOT writer Lee Hall and sounds like it will not follow the path of other successful musician biopics like WALK THE LINE, RAY, or BEHIND THE CANDELABRA.

Tom Hardy is one of my favorite actors working today and I will watch him in anything. This could be his ticket to an Academy Award nomination since the Oscars seem to love biopics.
