Tom Hardy would be interested in playing The Punisher

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Yeah, Tom Hardy dropped out of DC’s SUICIDE SQUAD and he has already played Bane in DC’s THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, but now it seems the British actor has his sights set on a particular Marvel character. In an interview with Collider, Hardy dropped a pair of properties he would be interested in joining.

I want The Punisher… I want The Punisher, or Splinter Cell, I want something…I don’t know what I want.

Tom Hardy‘s name has been linked to SPLINTER CELL since back in 2012. That project most recently had Doug Liman attached to direct and has been quiet since last year. Rights to The Punisher reverted to Marvel at the same time as Daredevil but there have been no active discussions about making a new movie about the vigilante character. Maybe Tom Hardy is the right man for the job.

While Hardy is only 5’9″ tall, he definitely has a presence that makes him appear bigger on screen. Just look at his work as Bane, in BRONSON, and even the trailers for MAD MAX: FURY ROAD and you can see the guy has the chops to play Frank Castle. Marvel has not made a an R-rated MCU property yet but they did show that Daredevil has the capabilities of getting pretty dark when necessary. It remains to be seen if Hardy would be willing to work on a multi-year Netflix series, but I would wager if Marvel Studios oould get an actor of his caliber, they would go feature film. But, does anyone want a PG-13 Punisher movie?

Hardy will next bee seen in MAD MAX: FURY ROAD on May 15th.
