Will Hugh Jackman be back as Logan for The Wolverine sequel and X-Men: Apocalypse?

The X-MEN: APOCALYPSE announcement yesterday was very exciting, as was last month's news about a sequel to THE WOLVERINE. But will Hugh Jackman return as Wolverine in these films? Jackman talked to Vanity Fair the other day, and he says he isn't sure if he'll do another film.

"I don’t know whether or not I will do this next movie. I am really proud of this movie and I am excited to develop something with Jim Mangold from the beginning because that is a great ride. That’s exciting, to see what we come up with but I have a very high expectation of what it would need to be [for me to star in it] and if it doesn’t reach those, I won’t be doing it."

The actor also says there isn't a script for the sequel yet, and it could be some time before another solo Wolverine film hits theaters.

"No there is not but Jim Mangold and I were literally on the phone last night talking about ideas but there is no script and no writer yet so it’s a way off."

Hugh Jackman's interview was done before the X-Men news dropped yesterday, but I think it's safe to assume that if he's not sure about a sequel to THE WOLVERINE, then he's probably also hasn't made a decision on appearing in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE either. The film is scheduled to come out in 2016, so if there is going to be another Wolverine film, it won't be released until sometime after that. Would Fox just cast someone else as Logan if Hugh Jackman decides not to come back for THE WOLVERINE sequel and X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, or will the character not appear in the next X-Men film? Hugh Jackman will have to hang up his Wolverine claws someday, but I really hope he gets to do at least one more Wolverine film before he does.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST could be the last time we see Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, and it will be released on May 23rd, 2014.
