Ms. Marvel: First reactions to Kamala Khan’s MCU arrival say the show is a breath of fresh air

Ms. Marvel, MCU, first reactions, Marvel Studios, Disney+

The first reactions to Ms. Marvel are here, so the time has finally arrived for my favorite Marvel Comics hero to make her MCU debut! That’s right, Kamala Khan is about to embiggen on Disney+, and a gathering of journalists and reviewers have seen the first two episodes of the highly-anticipated live-action series.

Those lucky enough to have seen Ms. Marvel in action are swooning over the Spider-Man-like vibes of the character and how Kamala’s MCU presence feels like a breath of fresh air.

You can see many of the internet’s first reactions to Ms. Marvel below, including thoughts from JoBlo’s Alex Maidy:

As you can see, people have plenty of glowingly-positive things to say about the first two episodes of Ms. Marvel. Many praise Iman Vellani’s outstanding performance and the show’s clever editing and carefree attitude. Marvel has done coming-of-age stories before, though Ms. Marvel sounds like it takes a refreshing approach to the well-worn formula. Several reviewers also note the show’s pride in showing Kamala’s Muslim heritage, a bold new step for the MCU regarding representation.

Starring alongside Iman Vellani for the new series is Aramis Knight, the vigilante known as Red Dagger, Saagar Shaikh as Kamala’s older brother Amir Khan, and Matt Lintz as Kamala’s best friend, Bruno Carrelli. Zenobia Shroff and Mohan Kapur star as Kamala’s parents, with Rish Shah, Laurel Marsden, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Nakli, Azhar Usman, Alysia Reiner, Fawad Khan, Travina Springer, Nimra Bucha, Alyy Khan, and Anjali Bhimani.

Here’s the official synopsis for Ms. Marvel:

Marvel Studios‘ ‘Ms. Marvel’ is a new, original series that introduces Kamala Khan, a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City. An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a Super Hero mega-fan with an oversized imagination — particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home until she gets superpowers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with superpowers.

Ms. Marvel premieres on Disney+ on June 8, 2022, and will begin its theatrical release in Pakistan in June.
