Scream

It looks like MTV’s “Scream” series is a sure thing—with or without Ghost Face—now that word is coming in via Yahoo! that the network got the formal greenlight today. Not exactly surprising news, but there it is. The show will make its debut in October of next year with a ten-episode first season.

According to the site, the series starts fresh with a new group of youngsters being menaced in a small town with Willa Fitzgerald (Royal Pains) and Arrow’s Bex Taylor-Klaus headlining a cast of newcomers.

The site goes on to confirm that the “Scream” series will not feature the iconic Ghost Face villain that became the face of the franchise. That’s certainly an odd choice considering how important Ghost Face is to SCREAM, but maybe writers Jill Blotevogel (Harper's Island), Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin (Criminal Minds) have something up their sleeves for future seasons?

You'd have to think that Ghost Face will eventually work his way into the show should it be successful. Otherwise, why the f*ck are you calling it "Scream" in the first place? If their intention is to use the first season as a platform that builds towards the killer eventually donning the iconic Ghost Face mask, then this might actually work. Time will tell, folks.

The shining light in all of this, however, is that original director Wes Craven is still on board as an executive producer, so there’s that…
