In a move that will surprise exactly no one, MTV has optioned the film rights to THE SUFFERING, marking their entry into the video game survival horror FPS adaptation into a movie competition. Given their demographic the move makes perfect sense and it appears they’ve picked a winner.
THE SUFFERING dealt with death row inmate Torque who suddenly found himself fighting myriad nasty beasts. One of his key abilities was turning into a powerful monster himself in the midst of a rage.
Sure it cribs elements from a lot of well known properties, but then so does MTV so it seems like a perfect match to me. One major upside is they are partnering with Stan Winston Productions so you know the creature effects are going to rock!
