All I keep hearing about THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR was that it was a popcorn movie. Nothing more than another entry in THE MUMMY franchise with some pop and zing. Well it made over 40 million dollars opening weekend… so I suppose that means the franchise should continue, right?
Right. At least that’s what MTV are reporting over here. MTV recently spoke to MUMMY 3 director Rob Cohen about the potential fourth film and boy did he get into it!
Cohen goes on to talk about the potential setting for the next film, what they could do with the setting, and even what the plot might be about. Cohen mentions how they’re looking to take MUMMY 4 to Latin America, perhaps Mexico or Peru, speaking about Aztec culture’s history of mummies. (!!SPOILER ALERT!!) He also mentioned that he’d really like to explore Rick O’Connell’s newly acquired immortality, or maybe Jonathan’s newly acquired powerful and mysterious artifact.(!!END SPOILER ALERT!!)
Head on over to MTV to get the entire run down. Despite many negative reviews, MUMMY 3 looks to be holding up in the box office, so I’d say a Part 4 seems highly likely.
Now I’m actually a fan of Brendan Fraser’s, I’ve enjoyed a good amount of his films, but he never found his winning genre. (my favorite Fraser flick would undoubtedly be MONKEYBONE) So if he can make some coin while battling mummies and spouting ridiculously cheesy one liners, then why not? I’m assuming Maria Bello (below) would be down for returning too. We’ll keep you updated once we hear more.
