Deadline has news that the actress is in negotiations to play a Russian hooker in the film ST. VINCENT DE VAN NUYS. The film comes from a Black List script by Ted Melfi, who will also be directing. The script is being compared to AS GOOD AS IT GETS and SILVER LINING PLAYBOOK because of its mix of humor and emotion.
Synopsis:
A young boy whose parents just divorced finds an unlikely friend and mentor in the misanthropic, bawdy, hedonistic, war veteran who lives next door.
The grumpy war vet played by Bill Murray and Naomi Watts‘ character develop a relationship in the film as Murray teaches some life lessons to the young boy. Chris O’Dowd plays a priest that is surprised by how Bill Murray‘s character has influenced the boy and Melissa McCarthy stars as the child’s mother.
This time of year there’s a lot of news for big budget films so it’s easy for smaller films like this to get lost. You read an article back in April or May and it isn’t until you see a trailer months later that you’re like, “Oh yeah…I remember hearing about that.” This is a pretty fantastic cast and I’m dying to see how much Bill Murray channels Clint Eastwood from GRAN TORINO.
ST. VINCENT VAN DE VAN NUYS is currently in pre-production and should start filming sometime this summer.
