After being cancelled by Disney+ earlier this year, Nautilus has found a new home at AMC.

The Captain Nemo origin series had already finished shooting, but Disney dropped the series nonetheless as a cost-cutting measure. As stated by CFO Christine McCarthy, “We are in the process of reviewing the content on our DTC services to align with the strategic changes in our approach to content curation…As a result, we will be removing certain content from our streaming platforms, and currently expect to take an impairment charge of approximately $1.5 to $1.8 billion.Nautilus will air on AMC as well as AMC+ sometime next year.

The series stars Shazad Latif as Nemo, the Indian Prince who sets sail with his ragtag crew on board the awe-inspiring Nautilus, where he not only battles with his enemy but also discovers a magical underwater world. “Nautilus is a big, sweeping drama that is sure to appeal to fans of our Anne Rice Immortal Universe and other buzzy and fan-forward series like Orphan Black: Echoes,” said Ben Davis, EVP of original programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios. “We are looking forward to bringing it to AMC+ and AMC as a special television event next year.” In addition to Shazad Latif, Nautilus also stars Georgia Flood, Thierry Frémont, Pacharo Mzembe, Arlo Green, Tyrone Ngatai, Ling Cooper Tang, Andrew Shaw, Ashan Kumar, Céline Menville, and Kayden Price.

When Disney cancelled Nautilus, they also dropped The Spiderwick Chronicles at the same time, but like Nautilus, that series was also saved by another studio. Roku snagged the exclusive, premiere U.S. rights to The Spiderwick Chronicles earlier this month, with the series set to drop on The Roku Channel early next year. The series follows “the coming-of-age story of the Grace Family, as they move from New York to Michigan and into their family’s ancestral home.  Upon arrival, the family not only uncovers mysteries hidden inside their great grandfather’s Spiderwick Estate, but also discovers a secret, fantastical world around them.
