NECA enters hall

Words cannot describe how cool this next piece is, but I’ll try.

Over at NECA’s MySpace Page, they’ve posted news on a limited edition Cult Classics Series entitled Hall of Fame. The collection, obviously being produced in limited quantities, will be comprised of characters that were previously only available in deluxe boxed sets or (in some cases) previously released figures that have being overhauled with new sculpted pieces.

Included in the series is Jason from FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2, Rooftop Battle Crow from THE CROW, Pinhead from HELLRAISER II: HELLBOUND and New Nightmare Freddy from WES CRAVEN’S NEW NIGHTMARE. All these 7″ figures come with movie accurate accessories and diorama base. Here’s how it breaks down:

Pinhead features the same body from Series I of the HELLRAISER line with a new chest deco and the weapons from the HELLBOUND Pinhead. Pinhead comes with an interchangeable head that features his Elliot Spencer likeness from the end of HELLRAISER II and a brand new custom display base that can be connected to the Clive Barker’s HELLRAISER Cenobite Lair Playset.

“Sackhead” Jason from PART 2, previously only available in the FRIDAY THE 13TH 25th Anniversary Boxed Set, comes with his alternate head, machete, pickaxe, spear, base, and Pamela’s head. “Rooftop” Crow, previously only available in THE CROW Rooftop Battle Boxed Set, comes with the weather vane and a modified section of the roof diorama base. Lastly, New Nightmare Freddy will be the shortpacked figure as he was previously part of Cult Classics Series 2. The difference here is the inclusion of the demon head from the end of New Nightmare.

The question you’re probably asking is, ‘Why the double-dip?’. Randy from NECA explains the decision, saying that first off, retailers want the marquee “A” list names over and over again. While some of you may think “not another Jason, Freddy, etc” the buyers want more of them. These figures always sell to collectors and to the casual fans alike. Other characters just don’t hold that same kind of appeal. Second, a few of these figures were only available in boxed sets before. Not everyone can afford the deluxe boxed sets or they don’t have the space for them. NECA made a conscious effort to make sure it had been at least a year since the boxed sets or original releases of these figures. Thirdly, manufacturing costs keep going up and NECA doesn’t want to raise prices. By releasing a line like this they are maximizing the tooling investment they have in these figures already so they can spend more time and resources on developing Cult Classics Series 6 with new figures and maybe a new license/figure never seen before.

All in all, this works for me! Hopefully we get images of these new figures in the coming weeks, since it’d be crazy to pass this one up (unless you’re in college and have no money to begin with. In that case, consider selling your organs).
