There have been many variations of the classic Bonnie and Clyde story told in Hollywood over the years. Most have been shit, but the best has always remained Arthur Penn’s 1967 classic BONNIE AND CLYDE, which holds up to this day thanks to a terrific cast and two wonderful performances from leads Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty.
Today, Variety is reporting that director Neil Burger (UNCHARTED: DRAKE’S FORTUNE, THE ILLUSIONIST) is in talks to helm a new version, an adaptation of the Jeff Guinn book Go Down Together: The True, Untold Story of Bonnie and Clyde, written by UP IN THE AIR scribe Sheldon Turner. Guinn’s book follows “Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker, as the young lovers rob banks throughout the Depression-era South, leaving at least seven bodies in their wake.” So, a remake basically.
As you may have heard, Burger is now in charge of the UNCHARTED film, much to the relief of fans of the video game everywhere. Screenwriter Sheldon Turner meanwhile is readying to make his directorial debut with the film BY VIRTUE FALL, a revenge drama with Colin Farrell and Eric Bana attached to star.
