A television adaptation of Neil Gaiman's "American Gods" has been in development for so long that many fans doubted that it would ever happen; however as we know, yesterday Starz placed a straight-to-series order for American God which will be developed and written by Bryan Fuller (Hannibal) and Michael Green (Kings), who will also serve as the series' showrunners. Bryan Fuller's Hannibal series is one of the most beautiful shows on television so I think it's safe to assume that American Gods will be in good hands in that department.
Fuller shared several pieces of American Gods art on Twitter which Neil Gaiman, who will also serve as executive producer on the series, approves of.

The first piece posted by Bryan Fuller is actually an older piece by Nicolas Delort, who wasn't credited, but it should be a good indication of the grandeur Fuller and Green will hopefully bring to the series.
American Gods' synopsis from the official press release:
The plot posits a war brewing between old and new gods: the traditional gods of biblical and mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs. Its protagonist, Shadow Moon, is an ex-con who becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to Mr. Wednesday, a conman but in reality one of the older gods, on a cross-country mission to gather his forces in preparation to battle the new deities.
There's no release date for American Gods at the moment, but lets just bask in the knowledge that it will actually be happening. Mmmm, that's good. Bryan Fuller's Hannibal is currently in its third season and if you aren't already watching, you really should be.
