Netflix announces The Haunting of Hill House season 2!

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Like most horror fans out there, I found Netflix and director Mike Flanagan's 10-part adaptation of Shirley Jackson's THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE to be far and away the best piece of genre entertainment of last year. And so it is with great pleasure that I pass on the killer news that Netflix has officially given a green light to a second season!

Season 2 will be called The Haunting of Bly Manor and will be an adaptation of Henry James’ The Turn of the Screw.

This second season comes as part of a multi-year overall television deal Netflix has signed with Flanagan and producer Trevor Macy. Flanagan and Macy will develop and produce new series exclusively for Netflix, including an all-new chapter in The Haunting anthology, with the next installment chronicling a new story with all new characters.

Cindy Holland, Vice President, Original Content at Netflix:

Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy are masterful at creating authentically frightening stories that leave audiences on the edge of their seats but unable to look away.  We’re excited to continue our partnership with them on The Haunting series and future projects to come.

Flanagan and Macy

Netflix has been an important part of our story, and we’re proud to have worked with them on The Haunting of Hill House, not to mention Gerald’s Game, Hush, and Before I Wake. They’ve enabled and supported a great deal of our work and we look forward to much more.

As far as feature films go, they are not part of this deal. Bummer. But that said, all is good as Flanagan's next film is his adaptation of Stephen King's THE SHINING sequel DOCTOR SLEEP starring Ewan McGregor and Rebecca Ferguson. That flicks hits November 8, 2019. The Haunting of Hill House is a modern reimagining of Shirley Jackson's iconic novel, produced with Paramount Television and Amblin Television. In addition to Flanagan and Macy, the show was executive produced by Meredith Averill and Co-Presidents of Amblin Television Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey.
