Mute Dark Horse Comics

Described as a sci-fi CASABLANCA, MUTE is a story MOON / SOURCE CODE / WARCRAFT director Duncan Jones has been longing to tell for well over a decade, and at one point was attempting to turn into a graphic novel at Dark Horse Comics (a sample of the art can be seen above). The comic version was never published, but the film has finally been made.

MUTE will be released through Netflix, and while the streaming service has not yet announced a release date, today they have shared a few images from the film that give us an early look at the visual style and some of the characters.

Scripted by Jones and Michael Robert Johnson, the futuristic thriller stars Alexander Skarsgård, Seyneb Saleh, Paul Rudd, and Justin Theroux. The synopsis:

Set in the near-future, Leo (Skarsgård) is a bartender living in the pulsing city of Berlin. Because of a childhood accident, Leo lost the ability to speak and the only good thing in his life is his beautiful girlfriend Naadirah (Saleh). When she vanishes without a trace, Leo’s search for her takes him deep into the city’s seedy underbelly. A pair of wisecracking American surgeons (Rudd and Theroux) are the only recurring clue and Leo is forced to take on this teeming underworld in order to find his love.

MUTE was produced by Stuart Fenegan, with Charles J.D. Schissel and Trevor Beattie serving as executive producers.

The film will be available for viewing on Netflix in all territories sometime in 2017. While we wait for it, check out these first look images, a couple of which have a BLADE RUNNER vibe to them. Paul Rudd's facial hair is pretty sweet, too.
