Variety announced this morning that we’re going to have to wait an additional seven months before we’ll be able to check out James Cameron’s upcoming Sci-Fi 3-D epic AVATAR in theaters, as Fox switched it’s release from Memorial Day, all the way to December 18, 2009.
Normally, a delay of such magnitude would be a red flag, but that’s not the case here. The change goes from the busy movie time of summer, to the busy movie time of the holiday season (both huge money makers), and allows Cameron and his Lightstorm Entertainment additional time to pimp out the 3-D effects of the film, as well as install more 3-D screen across the country (and abroad) so theaters can show it the way it was meant to be shown.
If you need a better reason than that, I couldn’t give you one! Considering it’s been 10 years now since Cameron’s last movie, what’s another few months to be able to check this one out, right?
Production is still on schedule, so all that extra time will be devoted to effects. Kick ass. AVATAR will hit 3-D theaters everywhere December 18th, 2009.
