With exactly a month until GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY hits theaters and Disney is still releasing more media for the film in the form of TV spots and posters. While some movies would be hitting overkill mode at this point, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is still teasing new things we have yet to see. Case in point: Michael Rooker as Yondu.

Until now, we have seen nothing of Rooker’s role in the film but director James Gunn has managed to unveil the first look at the mohawked, blue skinned alien and we still have nothing solid to go on. Gunn shared the photo on his Facebook page along with an intriguing quote about how the character came to be a part of the story.

Michael Rooker onset as Yondu. You’ll be seeing more of him soon. Yondu was not in the original script. I added him and wrote the role specifically for Rooker. I wasn’t sure Marvel was going to go for either idea, so I was relieved when they responded enthusiastically to both.”

Michael Rooker is a fan favorite actor who reached new popularity with his role as Merle on AMC’s THE WALKING DEAD. Adding him to the great ensemble cast that is GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY should make for an even more badass film. This photo shows us the character in shadow which keeps the mystery about him and hopefully it will remain a nice surprise for when the film hits theaters. Check out the photo below along with three new character posters featuring Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Rocket Racoon, and Groot.
