At the end of SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, I figured it was a done deal. Starling made it into the FBI, Billy Bob was brought to justice, and Lecter got his lunch. With HANNIBAL, while , I thought it was a good film all around, it was an unnecessary sequel (like many people thought). Don’t get me started on RED DRAGON.
Now, with production coming along smoothly for the prequel to SILENCE, titled HANNIBAL:BEHIND THE MASK (damn I hate this title), Dark Horizons has posted the first images from the set, featuring Gaspard Ulliel playing the younger version of Hannibal Lecter. The film is currently shooting in Prague, and hitting theaters July 2006.
The film traces the origins of why Hannibal acquired his taste for munching man, but at the same time portraying Hannibal in a sympathetic light. “It is a revenge story that shows why he became a cannibal,” said producer Dino De Laurentiis. “But he kills people that audiences want to see killed. So while there is a natural revulsion, the sympathy toward Hannibal remains.” Click Gaspard’s mug below to get to the larger versions of the photos.
