If you’re over on the West Coast then there’s a good chance you have the ability to visit ‘Halloween Horror Nights’ in Universal Studios Hollywood. I’m over on the East Coast and the best thing I have is Spooky World… anyway for those of you lucky enough to be visiting ‘Halloween Horror Nights’ this year you’ll be in for something new!
You may remember in the past the studio has had the likes of Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees and Leatherface roaming about the park. Well it seems those legends have gotten their pink slips and there’s a new group of legends coming in: The Rocky Horror Picture Show gang, Jigsaw and Shaun with Zombie Ed! Of course those are very recognizeable genre legends as well! THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, SAW and SHAUN OF THE DEAD seem to be the new draw this year. Here’s a bit of the rundown:
According to the Halloween Horror Nights official website they boast: “Want to play a game? At Universal’s ‘Halloween Horror Nights’, SAW is waiting. Step into Jigsaw’s demented world.” Then we had ‘Halloween Horror Nights” Creative Director John Murdy posting a ‘tweet’ via Twitter stating: “In case you were wondering…SHAUN is using a “child leash” to restrain ZOMBIE ED from eating our guests” followed by a link to the site’s gallery depicting the picture below. Nice! The gallery also features some other pretty twisted get-ups that’ll be walking the park so go ahead and check that out!
And lastly there was recently a press release sent out announcing ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW’s involvement with this year’s event. Mad scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter, Rocky Horror and other famous Rocky Horror Picture Show characters will be part of the Halloween Horror Nights line-up at Universal Studios Hollywood this year as “Rocky Horror Picture Show: A Tribute,” is featured as part of the Halloween Horror Nights event which begins a 16-night run on October 2. The tribute will bring the musical mayhem of the classic horror spoof to life on-screen and on-stage with live performers singing and dancing in the celebrated, outrageous “Rocky Horror” costumes. The tribute will be interactive, featuring audience participation and guest involvement.
Larry Kurzweil, President and Chief Operating Officer, Universal Studios Hollywood said: “Bringing film experiences to life is the essence of what we do at Universal Studios Hollywood and this classically edgy movie and its passionate following are a perfect fit for this year’s ground-breaking Halloween Horror Nights event.” The entire Halloween Horror Nights event at Universal Studios Hollywood has been re-designed for 2009. “Halloween Horror Nights” will feature four all-new mazes, a new “Terror Tram” backlot studio experience as well as terrifying new “Scare Zones.” New attractions will include a “live” maze experience based on the Saw film franchise, per an agreement among Universal Studios Theme Parks, Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures. Updates on “Halloween Horror Nights” are available on Twitter and Facebook, as Creative Director John Murdy reveals a running chronicle of exclusive information. Fans are invited to follow John Murdy on Twitter at: twitter.com/HorrorNights or via Facebook.
So there you have it! If you were planning on heading to Universal Studios Hollywood this Halloween you’ve got a lot to look forward too! The event will be held at Universal Studios Hollywood Friday through Sunday nights in October. Thursdays October 15th and 29th and Wednesday October 28th will also hold events while Friday October 4th is scheduled to be closed. We’ll be on the lookout for more ‘Halloween Horror Nights’ updates so keep it here!
