In what seems like a suicide move, Lionsgate has shifted the release date of Platinum Dunes’ THE HORSEMEN, from Friday, March 13th, to Friday, March 6th. Bumping up a release date a week is usually a good sign, especially when the 13th also has THE LAST HOUSE OF THE LEFT remake coming out on the same day, that is until you realize what’s also coming out on the 6th: WATCHMEN.
Probably one of the most anticipated movies to come out this year, WATCHMEN will likely dominate the box office, throwing flicks like THE HORSEMEN to the curb. And since HORSEMEN is also rated R, there’s no way in hell it’s gonna surpass WATCHMEN. Bummer.
Then again, having it go up against another horror flick like THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT wasn’t a smart move either, so maybe the only way this is gonna play out well is to just release it and get it out there. Better that than having it shelved for a few more months. That, or they could just find a release date that is a little bit less occupied than those two…
THE HORSEMEN, starring Dennis Quaid and Ziyi Zhang (below), is about a recently widowed detective still grieving over his wife’s death discovers a shocking connection between himself and the suspects in a serial killing spree linked to the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
Hells yeah. So, as of now, watch for THE HORSEMEN in theaters everywhere March 6, 2009 (in just over a month!).
