New images from Darren Aronofsky’s Noah paint an edgier portrait of the classic story

Visionary director Darren Aronofsky‘s take on the Biblical tale of NOAH is just under a year away from release, but today we have some new images to help calm the storms as you wait for its debut. Starring Russell Crowe as the titular character, Jennifer Connelly, Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, Kevin Durand, and Douglas Booth, the film is Aronofsky’s biggest and most ambitious project to date and judging by these images it looks like it will be a much more sylistic take on the classic tale. Each character looks significant and a bit “edgier” that what you’d expect from what we typically associate with robes and beards.

Take a gander:

I think this looks awesome and the stylistic choices make for a much more enticing take on these characters who have been interpreted in a very standard way for the last few centuries. As a fan of Aronofsky’s (duh), this is a no-brainer, but having John Logan (GLADIATOR) on scripting duties (along with Aronofsky and Ari Handel) sweetens the deal that much more.

NOAH sets sail on March 28, 2014.
