UPDATE: Added Mila Kunis!

A new poster for The Wachowski's upcoming sci-fi summer flick JUPITER ASCENDING has arrived, featuring Channing Tatum's Caine, a genetically engineered ex-military hunter with pointy ears. The film co-stars Mila Kunis (the titular Jupiter of the title), Sean "I'm dead" Bean, Douglas Booth, Eddie Redmayne, Terry Gilliam (yes, that one), James D'Arcy, and Doona Bae. Based on the trailer, this looks like an entertaining, if not odd, science fiction adventure (then again, I guess all sci-fi adventures are "odd" right?) and it's hard to complain when The Wachowski's are at the helm.

Take a look:

Here's the synopsis:

Jupiter Jones was born under a night sky, with signs predicting that she was destined for great things. Now grown, Jupiter dreams of the stars but wakes up to the cold reality of a job cleaning toilets and an endless run of bad breaks. Only when Caine, a genetically engineered ex-military hunter, arrives on Earth to track her down does Jupiter begin to glimpse the fate that has been waiting for her all along – her genetic signature marks her as next in line for an extraordinary inheritance that could alter the balance of the cosmos.

I really loved The Wachowski's last film, CLOUD ATLAS, but can absolutely see how it would be polarizing for a wide audience. Still, it's a wonderfully ambiguous film and a great ride if you've got the time to spare. JUPITER ASCENDING feels like a step between CLOUD ATLAS and THE MATRIX, the filmmaking duo's most renowned work (of which there's been rumblings of a new trilogy) and that may be just what's needed to reach the mainstream.

JUPITER ASCENDING opens on July 18, 2014
