New posters for Pirates of the Caribbean 5 puts the spotlight on the cast

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Johnny Depp's last outing as Captain Jack Sparrow, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES, may have brought in the most box-office bucks of the franchise, but it also scored the worst reviews. Thankfully, the early reactions from the screening of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES at CinemaCon last week have been mostly positive, with many calling the film a return to form as well as a surprisingly fun time. Disney has released a new batch of character posters which gives us a fresh look at Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), Henry Turner (Brenton Thwaites), Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario) and Armando Salazar (Javier Bardem).

Even when they became overly bloated and convoluted, I was still able to able to enjoy Gore Verbinski's PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN trilogy for the sheer amount of craziness on display, but by the time ON STRANGER TIDES rolled around, I found myself disappointed with the lackluster story which somehow felt small and cheap. If PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES can successfully bring back the fun of the first movie, which seems to be the case, then count me on-board for this latest adventure.

The official synopsis for PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES:

Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar, escape from the Devil's Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea… including him. Captain Jack's only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES will hit theaters on May 26, 2017.
